Terrestrial Brownbuls, Liwonde, 26th (left) and 27th (right) May 2011 - the right hand bird seems in the photo to have a pale supercilium which would be wrong for this species, but I'm pretty sure I was watching a Terrestrial Brownbul in this bush at the time. I suppose I could have got it mixed up with a different bird that I'd not seen, but I can't think what else it could be anyway. Any thoughts?

Placid Greenbul Phyllastrephus placidus [13]

10+ Zomba Plateau and 3 Zomba 17th (also a probable Zomba 15th).

Black-eyed Bulbul (Dark-capped Bulbul) Pycnonotus tricolor [c90]

Very common and widespread. Although common around human habitation the largest numbers were at Lengwe:

1-2 Malosa 14th, 17th and 27th-28th, up to 4 Zomba Plateau 15th-17th, 2 between Malosa and Cape Maclear 17th, 2 Cape Clear and 6 Otter Point 18th, 6 along the entrance to Lengwe 20th, 40 Lengwe 21st, 1 between Blantyre and Lilongwe 22nd, up to 6 Dzalanyama 22nd-24th, 2 between Lilongwe and Dedza and 3 Dedza 24th, 4 Chongoni 25th and 2 Liwonde 27th.

Some authorities treat this as the same species as Common Bulbul Pycnonotus barbatus; whatever the species the race that occurs in Malawi is naumanni.

Long-billed Crombec (Cape Crombec) Sylvietta rufescens [1+]

At least 1 Liwonde 27th. Crombecs at Lengwe 20th-21st were probably this species but not seen well enough to eliminate Red-faced Crombec Sylvietta whytii.
