Systematic list - part 19: Starlings, Mynas, Waxwings and part 1 of Warblers

 

European Starling Sturnus vulgaris (75)

Although common and widespread this species was not seen in big flocks. The largest flock was 10 Everglades (Flamingo car park) 18th. Birds were mainly seen in urban locations.

 

Common Myna Acridotheres tristis (5)

1 Tamiami Trail (Miccosukee abandoned airboat concession) 17th, 2 Florida City (Travelodge car park next to MacDonalds), 1 Marathon (Sombrero golf-course) 23rd and 1 Islanorda (Hungry Tarpon restaurant) 23rd. In addition an unidentified Myna (most likely this species) flew towards a fast-food restaurant near Alva 15th.

Cedar Waxwing Bombycilla cedrorum (57)

A flock of 18 over Green Cay 25th, a flock of 20 over the Holiday Inn Express at Pembroke Pines 26th and flocks of 12 and 7 over Loxahatchee 26th. All seen within a 16-hour period.

2 Dry Tortugas (Garden Key) 20th & 21st with 3 on 22nd and 3 Everglades (1 Snake Bight Trail, 2 Gumbo Limbo Trail) 24th.

1 Everglades (Royal Palm Hammock) 18th and 1 Dry Tortugas (Garden Key) 22nd.

2 Corkscrew Swamp 15th & 16th, 2 Dry Tortugas (Garden Key) 20th and 1 Fort Zachary 23rd.

2 Tamiami Trail (Loop Road) 14th, 1 Corkscrew Swamp 15th, probably a different bird Corkscrew Swamp 16th, 3 Everglades (Royal Palm Hammock, Mahogany Hammock, Luck Hammock) 18th, 1 Dry Tortugas (Garden Key) 20th & 21st, 1 Fort Zachary 23rd, 2 Everglades (Snake Bight Trail, Mahogany Hammock) 24th.
