This species normally winters in quite small numbers in Norfolk, the most regular sites being in the west of the county including Holme, Snettisham and Denver Sluice.

The same bird is shown in each of these 3 photos.
This bird remained at Snetttisham for several years: the species is not normally resident in the county during the summer and it was reported that this bird was an escapee - not sure if there was any evidence to support that or if it was an assumption based on it oversummering (which in itself is not proof of captive origin)

possible Scaup, Swanton Morley (Norfolk, UK), 24th November 2007 - at the time I was satisfied that this bird was a Scaup and assumed that the indistinct white patch around the bill indicated that it was a juvenile male (the first-winter drake shown above was present on my next visit, four weeks later), although I sought feedback as I wasn't wholly convinced. Looking back at my photos a few years later I am now wondering whether it was a misidentification. Some female Pochard x Tufted Duck hybrids can look very much like this bird, although the head shape would appear to count against that.
