Rough-legged Buzzard (Rough-legged Hawk) Buteo lagopus
Now mainly a scarce passage migrant in Norfolk, with over-wintering birds few and far between - just one or two birds usually spend the winter in the county nowadays.
Rough-legged Hawk has always been the North American name for this species, better known as Rough-legged Buzzard in Europe, but recent times have seen a slight change in the names' usage. Now the name Rough-legged Hawk is often used by European birders when referring to the North American subspecies which is believed to occur in Europe as a very rare vagrant.
