Rock Partridge Alectoris graeca
A species with a limited range within Europe, between the Alps and Greece. The form that occurs in Sicily (and is shown in the photos below) is now considered by some to be a distinct species, Sicilian Rock Partridge Alectoris whitakeri.
An excellent article by Andrea Corso on the identification and taxonomy of this endemic potential species was published in Dutch Birding 32: 72-96 (2010) – a PDF can be found here: http://www.ebnitalia.it/files/alectoris_whitakeri.pdf
