male Ring-necked Duck, Auchenreoch Loch (Dumfries & Galloway, UK), 23rd December 2015 - this bird seemed to have the white at the base of the bill restricted to the top, not extending down the sides of the bill; as such the possibility that it was a hybrid should be considered, though I was unable to detect any other anomalies

male Ring-necked Duck, Milton Loch (Dumfries & Galloway, UK), 23rd December 2015 - circumstances strongly suggested that this bird was the same as the above bird at Auchenreoch Loch, photographed shortly after the Milton Loch bird disappeared (the two lochs are less than a mile apart and there was no Ring-necked Duck at Auchenreoch Loch an hour or so earlier); however two days later local observers apparently reported birds present at both lochs at the same time
